It’s hard to believe that forty years have passed since James Cameron’s Aliens first blasted its way into cinemas. It redefined the science-fiction genre and proved a sequel could not only match its predecessor but potentially surpass it. On the Cine Bijou podcast, we mark this milestone with a very special guest: acclaimed writer and director Ian Nathan.
Ian Nathan, is the former editor of Empire magazine and author of respected books spotlighting some of cinema’s greatest directors including Clint Eastwood, Quintin Tarantino and Ridley Scott. We spoke with Ian previously about his upcoming documentary ‘The Thing Expanded‘, and we’re honoured that he joined us again. This time we discussed the return of his Rondo Award-winning documentary, Aliens Expanded. Hailed by Empire as the most “extensive, expansive or exhaustive” documentary of its kind, the film returns for a limited 40th Anniversary Edition.

The Ultimate Tribute to Cameron’s Masterpiece
As Ian notes during our conversation, Aliens remains arguably the greatest sequel of all time. It was the film that effectively invented an entire franchise. Ian’s mission with Aliens Expanded was to do this enduring classic justice. The documentary itself is a four-hour love letter for anyone who is a fan of this timeless classic. It features sequence-by-sequence analysis driven by genuine passion and revelations from those who were there.
To mark Aliens’ 40th Anniversary Ian and the team at CreatorVC are offering another chance for fans to own a copy of this epic documentary. Just when you thought there was nothing more that could be discussed along comes this collector’s edition adding more love to this four hour plus love letter.
What’s New in the 40th Anniversary Edition?
For the collectors and “obsessives” this new 2-disc Special Anniversary Edition is a “goldmine”. Ian explains the massive amount of bonus content included in this release. Fans will have access to over 14 hours of unseen and extended interviews.

Additionally, the set features a new 100-minute Theatrical Cut of the documentary, offering a pacier, more direct look at the film’s enduring power.
