Cult action classic ‘No Retreat No Surrender’ was more than just a low budget straight to video kung fu flick. This ‘Rocky’-eseque underdog tale with undertones of ‘The Karate Kid’ and ‘Rocky IV’, (and it’s sequel in name only) launched careers and brought Hong Kong style action to the west. Over the next four decades it remains a cult favourite held close to the hearts of the likes of Scott Adkins and Ryan Gosling. Now this beloved classic is the subject of an upcoming documentary reuniting cast and crew and featuring dedicated fans sharing stories and insights revealing ‘The Untold Story of No Retreat No Surrender’.
Directors Oliver Harper and Chris Stratton team up with ‘The Last Kumite’ co-writer and producer Sean David Lowe for this cinematic homage and love letter to the film that catapulted Jean Claude Van Damme to stardom. ‘No Retreat No Surrender’ is the main focus however Oliver and Chris delve into the name-only sequels ‘Raging Thunder’ and ‘Blood Brothers’. Together they uncover stories of the first film’s journey from concept to release, it’s international acclaim and popularity around the world especially Germany.
